Guest guest Posted June 13, 2000 Report Share Posted June 13, 2000 * Exported from MasterCook * Meatless Sloppy Joes Recipe By :Simply Vegetarian, Sue Spitler Serving Size : 4 Preparation Time :0:00 Categories : Simply Vegetarian Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method -------- ------------ -------------------------------- 1/2 cup chopped onion 1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper -- (or red) 1 teaspoon minced garlic 1 tablespoon vegetable oil -- (to 2 tbsp) 1/2 cup catsup 2/3 cup water 2 tablespoons light brown sugar 1 tablespoon prepared mustard 1/2 teaspoon chili powder 2/3 cup texturized vegetable protein salt & pepper to taste 4 hamburger buns -- toasted Saute onion, bell pepper, and garlic in oil in a medium saucepan 5 minutes. Stir in catsup, water, brown sugar, mustard, chili powder, and vegetable protein. Heat to boiling. Reduce heat and simmer, covered, 10 minutes. Season to taste with salt & pepper. Spoon sandwich mixture into buns.
