Guest guest
Are there any vegan equivalents for " jello " ? Would especially like a sugar-free alternative as I'm also watching my weight. I'm sure this question has been discussed previously, but I probably didn't pay attention before. Thanks in advance! -Pam - " Jennifer Hall " <ladyevelyn <EFDA34 Wednesday, May 17, 2000 11:33 PM Yogurt Jello > Here is a nice jello recipe that Gail sent to the 123recipeonly list it looks really good and easy and I thought I'd share it > Jenn > Ottawa, Ontario, Canada > http://tlotc.dhs.org/jenn/ > > * Exported from MasterCook * > > YOGURT JELLO > > Recipe By : Gail <precious sent to 123RecipesOnly > Serving Size : 4 Preparation Time :0:05 > Categories : 2 Point Desserts > Done By Dotties Calculator Low-Fat > Jell-o Recipes > > Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method > -------- ------------ -------------------------------- > 1 package jell-o, jelly powder -- sugar free if u want > any flavour you want > 1 cup boiling water > 1 cup fat-free yogurt -- any flavour you want > > Bring water to boiling and stir in jello until dissolved. Guest guest
Pam: I told Jennifer that, yes, there are vegan " gelatins " , but they are not easy to find. There are two kosher brands, Emes and Ko-jel, that are vegan. They come in plain and flavors. They can be used just like Jello. They are made from carrageenan, a seaweed derivative. You can probably find them at a kosher grocery store or perhaps a Seventh Day Adventist store. Be careful though -- all kosher gelatins are *not* vegetarian, but these particular two brands are. There are some flavored vegan " gelatins " made by Hain called " Superfruits " . They can usually be found in a health food store in the section where they sell the tofu puddings and such. I'm not sure if they're sugar-free or not. Then there is agar-agar. You could find this at a health food store or oriental market. The thing about it is that the texture will not come out quite the same as the other types of vegan gelatin. It comes out more of a firmer, denser quality instead of lighter & " jiggly " . Hope this is helpful. Karen " Pam Barker (home) " wrote: > Are there any vegan equivalents for " jello " ? Would especially like a > sugar-free alternative as I'm also watching my weight.
