RIVER GROVE -- An art teacher who claims he was ousted from the

classroom last week for spreading information about animal cruelty and

veganism to his students, said today that he plans to file charges

against School District 3 officials.Dave Warwak, 44, an

instructor at Fox River Grove Middle School, clashed with District 3

officials after he distributed literature on animal cruelty in food

production and the benefits of a no-meat diet to his students. In

a meeting this afternoon, district officials allegedly told Warwak that

he had not been fired, but that he was being insubordinate for refusing

to answer their questions."I'll answer your questions, if you answer mine," Warwak allegedly said during the meeting.Warwak's

attorney, who accompanied the teacher to today's meeting, said he could

soon be asking the McHenry County State's Attorney Office to file

child-endangerment charges against the district for violating the

Illinois School Code by not teaching children about the health risks of

eating meat.Warwak allegedly offered to not file charges

against the district if officials switched school cafeterias to a vegan

menu. School officials allegedly did not respond to the offer.Warwak

came under fire after giving copies of John Robbins' "The Food

Revolution" to eighth-graders and encouraging students to visit Web

sites on factory farming that some parents said contained graphic

images. The teacher said school officials asked him to leave after he

refused to stop discussing the issue in class.Warwak, who has

taught at the school for eight years, said he started to spread the

word on the issue after becoming a vegan in January. He attributes many

of society's ills to mankind's treatment of animals, including global

warming, and said students need to learn at a young age to appreciate

animal life.District 3 school officials have repeatedly declined to comment on Warwak's actions.Source
