There is a ‘Why Vegan?’ event taking place in London on Sat 31st March from 12 noon until 4pm at the Bloomsbury Central Baptist Church Hall, 235 Shaftesbury Avenue, in support of Animal Aid’s Veggie Month (www.veggiemonth.com). The event is aimed at those who are thinking about going veggie or vegan and would like some more information, advice, support or a chance to meet like-minded people. There will be cookery demonstrations, nutrition surgeries, films, question and answer sessions with experts, literature to take away and food samples to try. If you are already vegan then please offer to help on the day as there are lots of things to do and it’s a great chance to meet new people and get involved with promoting veganism. Our second free veggie food fayre in conjunction with the Veggie Table Cafe at

Bath Place Community Venture CV31 3AQ on Saturday 31st of March from 11am-3pm.Free food fayre's are a great way to show people what a fantastic range of veggie food is now available. I'm always pleasantly surprised at the response that we get from people at these events who often say 'I never knew vegan food could be this tasty, varied or easy'. More and more people are reducing the amount of meat that they eat for a variety of reasons and food fayres provide an excellent opportunity to sample food, get free recipes and nutritional advice. There will be plenty of information available on the day for those wishing to find out more about the health benefits of a veggie diet, but also about the cruelty involved in intensive farming systems and the damage to the planet caused by animal farming. Liz Hughes will be joining us to demonstrate her cordon vert skills in a three course cookery demonstration. The menu will comprise of: crispy fried tofu

with lemon and black pepper sauce, fennel, orange and chilli salad and chocolate baked bananas. All three dishes come from the cook book entitled 'A Slice of Fair Trade' which Liz and Birmingham Veggies and Vegans have compiled and recently had published. It is the first veggie fair trade cookery book in the country and will be on sale at the event. We will have several other demonstrations in the main hall on seed sprouting, alternative 'milk' making and quick and easy vegan ice cream making. Something for everyone there I hope. In the side room there will be talks on vegan nutrition, a showing of Jill’s film and a talk on the environmental impact of animal farming as follows: 12.00-1.00pm - Anne Grainger from Viva! (www.viva.org) will be speaking about the health benefits of a vegan diet and about vegan nutrition in general and will also be answering questions on these subjects for those requiring more specific advice. 1.00-2.00pm - Jill’s

Film This will be Leamington’s first showing of this moving film about the life and struggles of local Animal Rights activist Jill Phipps. Jill met an untimely death whilst campaigning against the export of live calves from Baginton airport in Coventry. More information can be learned about Jill at www.jillphipps.org.uk 2-00-3.00 - Chris Anderson from Animal Aid (www.animalaid.org.uk) will be talking about the impact that animal farming has on our environment and why a change in our eating habits could help save the world! In the main hall there will be a varied array of tempting and tasty vegan dishes to sample for free and also some available for sale when the fancy takes you. Thai curry, vegan sosage‚ rolls, Hungarian goulash, vegan quiche, chocolate brownies and gateaux to name but a few dishes on offer. Also in the main hall will be stalls including: The Dr. Hadwen Trust for Humane Research (www.drhadwentrust.org.uk), selling cruelty-free

goodies such as cosmetics, toiletries and chocolates; Redditch Veggies and Vegans promoting ethical diets that benefit animals, the environment and our own health (www.redditchveggies.org.uk); a tombola and Leamington Veggies and Vegans’ stall selling a variety of goods, such as hand made soap, cds, books and guides, cruelty-free toiletries and vegan fudge to name a few. There will be an extensive range of literature available covering subjects such as vegan diet, health and nutrition, environmental issues and livestock farming and its impact on the animals, our planet and ourselves. There will also be plenty of well informed people on hand to discuss issues with and answer any questions on going veggie or anything else. We will also have a café serving hot and cold drinks throughout. Altogether an interesting, informative and tasty day out with something for everyone to get their teeth into! For more information contact: Leamington
