Guest guest
ANCHORAGE A fight is brewing over the hunting of McNeil River bears. While the McNeil River State Game Sanctuary is off limits to hunters, the Alaska Board of Game wants to allow hunting on nearby land. Dave Bachrach, who runs bear-viewing tours, said that the bear population was already in decline. He asked: “How can we open the back door and allow hunters in to kill some more?” The game board argues that the sanctuary was created to protect bear viewing rather than individual bears.
