Guest guest
I came across this article and was surprised. My daughter works at The Natural Death Centre in London, and has been giving advice on eco- friendly coffins/burials and natural burials for several years. Jo Fri Feb 9, 2:49 AM ET CANBERRA, Feb 9 (Reuters Life!) - Environment lovers can now take their passion to the grave. An Australian funeral company is offering coffins made of recycled paper and cardboard as part of a move towards more environmentally friendly funerals. Funeral director Rob James said the coffins were made from wood fibre, 90 per cent of which came from the 1.6 million tonnes of paper and cardboard recycled in Australia each year. " The innovative use of natural glues also acts to curb emissions released, with cardboard coffins producing no toxic pollution upon burial or cremation, " James told Australian Associated Press on Friday. He said the company Simplicity Funerals would supply the special cardboard coffins at its Sydney funeral homes, in response to high public demand. He said the coffins had " a natural, smooth look, " but would cost about the same as other coffins.
