I`ve never understood why a vegan would want anything animal flavour, but hey horses for courses ( or not if your not French!) Hillsborough, N.J. — In recognition of its amazing FlavorMatch meatless chicken- and beef-flavored bases that can help turn any cook into a vegan chef, Hillsborough-based RC Fine Foods has won the award for "Best Innovators in Food Service" in PETA’s 2007 "Proggy" Awards. Proggys—short for "progress"—are presented to animal-friendly people, organizations, and companies. RC will receive a commemorative plaque and will be featured on PETA.org, which is visited by thousands of people every day. RC’s new FlavorMatch bases have all the taste and aroma of chicken or

beef stock but contain no meat, egg, or dairy ingredients. The FlavorMatch bases make it a cinch for chefs and food-service operators to adapt their favorite sauces, soups, and gravies to be vegan. The only things missing are cholesterol, saturated fat, animal suffering, and other undesirable "ingredients" found in meat and other animal products. What’s PETA’s beef with meat? Besides the fact that animals in the meat industry suffer daily abuses that would result in cruelty-to-animals charges if the victims were cats or dogs, consumption of meat and other animal products has been conclusively linked to heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and several types of cancer. "Even nonvegans agree that when it comes to flavor, nothing beats RC’s meatless bases—not even the ‘real’ thing," says PETA President Ingrid E. Newkirk. "We’re thrilled to recognize RC Fine Foods for

helping to meet America’s growing hunger for vegan options." This year, there were more than 20 "Proggy" winners, ranging from producers and marketers of vegan foods and cruelty-free personal-care and household products to companies and individuals helping to promote respect and empathy for animals through scientific advances, education, and politics.
