January 11, 2007 11:21 a.m. EST Linda Young - All Headline News Staff Writer New York, NY (AHN) - Vegan clothing may not make it into a big name fashion designer's collection any time soon but many women are clamoring for clothing they see as earth and animal friendly. Whether it is simply avoiding wearing fur and leather or switching to hemp-fabric clothing the words "vegan" and "chic" are being used together to clothing. Consumers can choose additions for their wardrobe from an increasing number of clothing items manufactured free of animal products or heavy chemical processing and dyes. According to the New York Times more boutiques, online stores and ecology minded fashion labels are featuring natural fibers and imitation-leather. People who eat a diet of vegetables and fruits without eating meat or animal products are called Vegans. Increasingly vegans are looking for fashionable clothing that is

not manufactured using animal hides or glues and dyes made from animals, the New York Times reported Thursday. A fashion retail consultant told the New York Times that people were more conscious now of "what they're wearing, why they're wearing it and how it affects the environment," because ignoring those issues was "not sexy today," Robert Burke said. The vegetarian market is considered important economically and is expected to grow. Thus giving retailers a reason to offer earth and animal friendly-clothing. Companies including Vegan Essentials, Mooshoes and Freerangers offer high fashion imitation-leather footwear, belts, wallets and purses for men and women. An increasing number of companies are offering Vegan fashions as well. Peter H
