Guest guest
Comet's brightness shines through winter clouds THE ASSOCIATED PRESS SPOKANE, Wash. -- A newly discovered comet has been bright enough to penetrate recent clouds hanging over parts of Eastern Washington, sky-watchers say. Comet McNaught has been widely seen in other parts of the world, and was visible, with an impressive tail, west of Spokane on Tuesday, the Spokesman-Review newspaper reported. " The comet is so bright they are seeing it through the haze " in some cities, said Mary Singer, a member of the Spokane Astronomical Society. By Friday evening, officials say the comet may be too low in the sky to see - although the tail remains visible after the comet itself drops below the horizon. To find Comet McNaught in the evening, look slightly below and to the right of the planet Venus. Comet-watchers say the best time to see McNaught is from 4:50 to 5:15 p.m. in the west-southwest, or just before dawn in the southeast. --- Information from: The Spokesman-Review, http://www.spokesmanreview.com What gets us into trouble is not what we don't know, it's what we know for sure that just ain't so. - Mark Twain
