Guest guest
Well, this is definitely a non-vegan question, but since we have such a diverse group here I'm wondering if anybody has any experience with foreign language instruction programs/cd's, etc. Okay, I live in California and I should have learned Spanish before this, but I haven't. I am doing my paralegal internship for an attorney who specializes in immigration, and while there are a number of languages that get involved there, the primary one is Spanish. So I downloaded this coffe break spanish program onto my i-pod. Free, thank goodness. It is taught by people with a Scottish accent, and they insist that gracias should be pronounced grafias. That may be so in Spain, but not in California. And brief lesson after brief lesson they seem to have little meat in this program. I mean, why spend a great deal of a short period of time learning to say the names of all the different countries in Spanish? So I have check out some programs in the bookstore, but again most of them seem to have this emphasis on travel, which isn't what I'm looking for. And I've looked at the Rosetta Stone, but it's sooooooooo expensive!!!! So anybody have any advice here??? Guest guest
Sharon:Why not look into a community college's Introductory Spanish class? Community colleges are fairly inexpensive and are sure to have evening classes that won't interfere with your work schedule. Also, the Spanish you'll learn will be more conversational and probably much more useful to you than learning questions about hotel amenities. Another benefit, too, is having a live instructor there that can help with pronunciation and help you with other translating that may not be included in normal course work.Good luck!Cheryl
