"SLAIN SOLDIER GETS WICCAN SYMBOLReno -- After fighting the federal government for morethan a year, on Saturday, the widow of a soldierkilled in Afghanistan got to see the Wiccan symbolplaced on his memorial plaque.More than 50 friends and family of Sgt. Patrick D.Stewart gathered to dedicate the plaque at NorthernNevada Veterans Memorial Cemetary in Fernley, about 35miles east of Reno.Stewart's widow, Roberta, and Wiccan leaders said itwas the first government-issued memorial plaque with aWiccan pentacle -- a five-pointed star enclosed in acircle.They praised Gov. Kenny Guinn for his role in gettingthe Nevada Office of Veterans Services to issue theplaque.But they criticized the U.S. Department of VeteransAffairs, which recognizes more than 30 symbols, butnot the pentacle. VA officials have said they arerewriting rules for approving emblems."
