Guest guest
I thought that I would share this as it contains references that some vegans may not be aware of and find useful its from the Bankok Post: In his Postbag letter of Nov l2 John Syme writes that I only quote studies which support my vegetarian view while ignoring other studies. But neither he nor Postbag writer David Wenman are able to present a single study which refutes any of the facts or statistics that I referred to in my article. And that should tell you something. Perhaps the readers would like to know more about the two main sources I used in my article. Dr T. Colin Campbell is a world famous nutritionist who teaches at Cornell University. Because his father was a dairy farmer he grew up believing in a high protein diet similar to Atkins. But because of studies such as The China Study - the most extensive study ever done on the relationship between diet and health - Campbell changed his mind. The China Study is an ongoing study that has lasted about twenty years, involves thousands of Chinese and Taiwanese people, and no one to my knowledge has even attempted to refute its findings. My other major source, John Robbins, was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize and is the son of the man who founded Baskin Robbins ice cream. Though John's father offered him the business, because John is a vegan (vegans don't eat animals, dairy products or eggs) he turned down the business. which would have made him a multi-millionaire. Still Mr Wenman is right that it's not healthy to eat cheese, candy bars or candy. That's why I promote a low-fat - these foods are not low-fat - vegan diet. Furthermore, since candy bars and candy usually have eggs or dairy in them they generally are not vegan food.
