Torchwood premieres in host city John Barrowman appeared as Captain Jack in Doctor WhoA premiere screening of a new sci-fi drama, from the same stable as Dr Who, has taken place in Cardiff. Torchwood - an anagram of Doctor Who - has been created by writer Russell T Davies and will be broadcast on Sunday. Set in Cardiff, the series stars John Barrowman as Captain Jack - one of the characters from Doctor Who - and Eve Myles as Gwen Cooper. Torchwood follows the adventures of a team of investigators solving crime - both alien and human. Swansea-born Davies, the creator of Queer as Folk and Second Coming, said the series would be aimed at an adult audiences and broadcast after the watershed. "It's a nine o'clock show and it's got very exciting adventures and good strong stories - it's an adult sci-fi," he said. "It's about real people, real lives, the lead characters have got homes lives and mortgages to pay." He added there was there is a team of six investigators and "they all get the chance to shine" as the 13-part series progresses. Russell T Davies is the creator of Torchwood Captain Jack Harkness is the leader of the Torchwood team and Ms Myles' character Gwen Cooper by chance becomes involved with the team. Initially an outsider, a chance meeting at the scene of a murder leads her to become part of Torchwood. The series also stars Indira Varma, Burn Gorman, Naoko Mori and Gareth David-Lloyd. Torchwood has been filmed in a variety of locations across south Wales, including Cardiff Bay, and a specially-built studio near Pontypridd. Although Doctor Who inspired Torchwood, no storylines cross over between the two series. Torchwood is broadcast on Sunday, 22 October, on BBC Three, at 2100 BST and 2150 BST.
