The event was to have been the first mounted hunt in Central London for almost 60 years. About 25 riders with hounds had planned to chase an artificial scent for a mile. But police feared that protesters would create a public order incident. Their concern was heightened because tomorrow is also Horseman Sunday, which celebrates recreational riding in the capital. Instead, members of the Connaught Square Squirrel Hunt, set up last year to cock a snook at the hunting ban, now plan a trail hunt on foot with dogs. The hunt organisers are discussing a new date for a mounted meet with the Royal Parks.
