Guest guest
Arizona? While the depth of the Valley’s international cuisine often comes as a surprise, long-time residents have come to realize the Phoenix metro does the food of numerous cultures well. Case in point: Indian food. Much of the central Valley is dotted with Indian restaurants, but few are as undeniably delicious as Udupi Café Whereas most American diners familiar with Indian think of things like kabobs and curries, Udupi offers mostly vegan-friendly, hard-to-find dishes such as rasam. Almost everything we’ve tried here is good. Eating here is almost like being in on a secret, too, as during our visit there were no non-Indian customers except us. The lunch buffet is cheap and provides a great selection of wonderful dishes which change regularly. We’ve never tried something we haven’t liked. If you go during dinner hours, make sure to sample the uthappam, which is something like the Indian version of a burrito stuffed with potatoes and all kinds of other delicious vegetables and herbs. At Udupi, you’ll also find an incredibly helpful staff willing to explain things you’re not familiar with, making Udupi a guaranteed winner. Udupi, 1639 N.
