Guest guest
Hi! This is a press release from Arthur Pendragon regarding the protest at Tinore. Peace Damh Press Release 27 August 2006 Titnore Woods, Worthing Under threat of eviction, tree protestors in Titnore Woods, Worthing, are tonight announcing the existence of an extensive tunnel network that has been dug to defend ancient woodland from devastation. Tunnel digger Lank tonight said, " the destruction of this beautiful woodland for an unnecessary housing development is a disgrace. " Lank, 25, continues, " our tunnels are extensive and are backed by years of experience. Any attempt to evict them with an inexperienced tunnelling crew will be foolhardy and dangerous, thereby putting at risk the lives of those protestors and the eviction team " . The Eco-warriors will be using underground lock-on equipment as a way of resisting eviction using non violent direct action. Background Worthing Borough Council have approved a hugely unpopular plan to build 875 homes at the expense of 275 mature trees (and dependent wildlife) on open fields and ancient woodland off Titnore Lane, West Durrington, Worthing. The scheme has been the subject of sustained local protests, where marches, petitions and even an effigy-burning of John Prescott have been organised by locals angry that their opinions and feelings about the development have been trampled over by both local and national Government. The area is extremely ecologically sensitive, supporting many rare species and also is of archaeological importance, with evidence of Roman settlement nearby. An appeal hearing will be heard in front of Mrs Justice Swift, Queens Bench Division, on Tuesday 29th August 2006 from 10am at the Royal Courts of Justice in London. Supporters of the protest will be in attendance as well as a number of robed Druids. Contact number for camp - 07804 245324
