Hello all

 

For those of you who have enjoyed watching the colony of harbor

seals that haul out at the Casa Beach in La Jolla near San Diego, a

seal supporter has produced and made available on You Tube a short

film about the need for protection and the evidence of human

disturbance. The direct URL to the film is at

Although most people in the county support protecting the seals, a

handful of rich individuals has strong-armed city officials to take

steps to eliminate this colony. Despite protection for the seals

provided by federal, state and local laws, these individuals

regularly harrass the seals by flushing the haul out site. For the

most part, law enforcement officials ignore these violations.

 

Harbor seals are skittish in nature, and perceive human disturbance

as a threat. In the Bay Area, a haul out site was abandoned by

harbor seals due to increasing development and human disturbance.

We don't want the same thing to happen here.
