Guest guest
Interestingly, they don't make any mention of Scotland... probably because the figures would show a ridiculously high increase - I'd guess in the region of around 100,000 more than the usual.... BB Peter Stop and search increase revealed Many of the Essex stop and searches took place at Stansted Figures have revealed huge increases in the number of people stopped under the Terrorism Act in Essex and Sussex between 2003/2004 and 2004/2005. The Home Office figures show that in Essex, which is home to Stansted Airport, the number stopped has risen by 2,642 cases from 975 to 3,617. While in Sussex, which includes Gatwick Airport, the number has risen by 2,006 cases from 583 to 2,589. But in Beds, with Luton Airport, no-one was stopped and searched in 2004/2005. Nationally the number stopped and searched in England and Wales rose from 29,383 to 32,062 between 2003/2004 and 2004/2005 - an increase of 9%. Of those stopped in 2004/2005, 23,389 were white, 2,511 were black and 1,324 were Asian. The figures also show that the number stopped and searched by the Metropolitan Police declined from 15,535 to 12,686. A spokesman for Essex Police said most of those stopped were at Stansted Airport.
