Guest guest
I use about everything when I cook. For herbs I use these the most: rosemary, cilantro, basil, sorrel and savory. Spices would be: red pepper flakes, regular or smoked paprika, hot curry powder, fenugreek (just recently) and Mrs. Dash Mark
Guest guest
My favorite spices are Garlic, Mrs. Dash Garlic and Herb, Mrs Dash table blend, Lawrys season salt, and chili powder. Herbs are: Rosemary, Basil, oregano, chives, and sage. I have tried growing basil and chives for the first time this year. The chives are still small, but the basil has been awesome! It's great to have fresh basil any time you want and it smells so good. I am growing it in a pot in my cold frame and when ever I water it, it puts such an aromatic smell throughout my whole cold frame! Guest guest
Cumin, coriander, paprika (smoked or otherwise), chili and turmeric are the spices I use the most. The first two in particular seem to find their way into almost every meal I cook. Favourite herbs are basil, cilantro, oregano, bay leaves and rosemary. I buy pots of fesh bail and cilantro from the supermarket and try to keep them alive as long as I can - usually not very long :-( . This year I am also trying to grow a pot of oregano, thyme, rosemary and sage. I have a tendency to overwater my plants so it is anyone's guess how long they will survive. Guest guest
> What are your 5 favorite Spices and 5 favorite Herbs? OK, I am not going to count onion, garlic and ginger, since these are not spices but a food group onto themselves, at least the way I use them ;-) Spices: cumin, coriander seeds, cardamom, mustard seeds, ground up dried chipotle or smoked paprika (even though peppers are also a food group onto themselves....) Herbs: cilantro, parsley, basil, mint, marjoram, oregano, sage, rosemary, dill and shiso (I can't just do 5, sorry) > > Let us also know if you grow your own, what you grow and any tidbit of wise > advice on that. Yes, I grow everything. I never do well with the dill for some reason. I will keep trying. Any advice? All the other herbs are doing really well (the ones in season) I do have some advice on cilantro. I just found this out recently (duhhh). I reseed my cilantro and use it all around the garden. I like the flowers they look pretty to me and they attract bees. I also love the herb and I even like the flavor of the immature tender seeds when they start (like a cross between cilantro and coriander) This summer I did this, saved seed and sowed all over and NOTHING! not a single cilantro sprout grew. Very strange since I sowed seeds in February and I could swear every single one sprouted. Doing a little research revealed they need cooler weather to sprout. They are a spring and fall plant, not a summer plant! Cilantro is not in season now, it will sprout when the weather gets cooler. I wish somebody had told me that....
