Quorn Poisoning warning and question

I bought some Quorn cutlets a few years ago, and became violently

ill a couple of hours after eating one.

Although some have asked why I continued to eat them, it's because I

blamed it's not always easy to figure out which food item causes

such illness.

It wasn't until the 3rd bout (over about 2 wks time)-- which took me

to the ER from uncontrolled vomiting/dizziness, and weakness -- that

I realized the only thing I'd eaten each of the 3 times was the

Quorn.

Last fall, I went to a Thanksgiving cooking class at WIld Oats. The

cook told us she'd made one dish with Quorn; one with Tofu because,

she said, some folks get a sick from Quorn. I ate the tofu one, but

a couple of years had passed since my fateful meetup with Quorn, and

I figured just one bite wouldn't hurt. That's all I had...1 bite.

Then I completely forgot about it, until about an hr or two later

when I started to feel nauseated. I made myself vomit to avoid the

hours long episode I was familiar with.

I just want to warn those of you who are new to being veg. Quorn is

the only food I've had this trouble with. I don't tend toward food

troubles otherwise. I don't know what it is about me, or what it is

about Quorn...I do know its a mycoprotein, which seems fungal-

related (molds?), which makes me wonder if there's any possible

connection to penicillin-allergy. Does anyone else here get really

ill from Quorn who is also allergic to penicillin? or who isn't

allergic to it?
