Guest guest
California Flaky Nut date roll 3/4 cup date pieces 1/4 cup boiling water (aprox) 1 cup roasted hazelnuts ¾ cup lightly roasted pecans 1 tbsp ground cinnamon 1/2 tbsp ground cardamom seeds 4 oz canned citrus preserve, or blended fresh citrus pulp (could substitute grated rind and a little juice) 1 pack (16oz) phyllo dough leaves Olive oil as needed, best in sprayer 4 oz honey mixed with 1-2 oz hot water Mix date pieces with enough water to moisten to a dough consistency. Add ground roasted nuts, spices and blended citrus. Layer 1/3 phyllo dough sheets on oiled baking pan, lightly spraying oil in between each sheet or couple of sheets. Spread 1/3 nut/date paste like if it was jam but leave one inch or so on either side. Roll and make cuts on top of roll. Make the other 2 rolls the same way. Bake at 400F ~ 35 minutes. Mix honey with hot water so it is a thick, pourable syrup. Drizzle on slits cut on hot nut rolls and allow them to soak and cool.
