Guest guest
I am a life time Vegetarian. I have to take a business trip for 10 days to Tokyo suburb of Tama in Japan. Can someone guide me to what is possible for vegetarian in this part of Japan. I expect to have good breakfast, light lunch and reasonable dinner. Would like either Indian, Italian restaurants. Some tips from experienced travelers to Japan appreciated. Thanks. Regards. Pari
Guest guest
Hi Pari, It's 15 years since I spent any time in Japan but I found being vegetarian there to be a mix of easy and difficult. When I was there it was always easy to find tamago sushi (if you eat eggs), veggie yakisoba and marinara spaghetti in cafes and restaurants. If you are there at the right time of year, toasted bamboo shoots are a real treat. My hosts were wonderfully gracious and accommodating but that meant I once had an entire multi-course meal of konyaku. It was tasty but that's a lot of konyaku. My town was very small and no where near Tokyo. I would imagine in Tokyo you could find any cuisine you want; Tokyo is very cosmopolitan. And curry is quite popular.
