Guest guest
>>> " ...I'm optimistic and look on the positive side. I'm happy to see they are going to offer a vegan item and if it states vegan I believe they will cook it accordingly. I hope they will considering this on the menu in the U.S....<<< Okay, I know I'm not vegan, but I've read enough here to realize the implications that when someone says " it's vegan " --that means " nothing animal in it or near it...not even when fried, boiled, broiled, baked, etc... " When I read about the " vegan chicken patty " being offered by Canadian KFC fast food establishments, I had serious doubts, frankly! My first thought was, " This thing has to be cooked somehow, probably deep-fried... " Hmmmmm....It doesn't take a rocket scientist to visualize the scenario: They have a cooker of some kind with a huge vat of hot oil that they deep fry REAL chicken in... and maybe they have a second huge vat of hot oil for their " other " stuff--anything like French fries MIGHT go into that--including this new " vegan chicken " offering. However, it's been discussed here I believe, that not all fast-food fries are totally meat-free...because of the flavoring/browning additives on some frozen french fries.... But wait! I don't even know if KFC has fries on its menu! (I went to one ONCE in the past year--bad experience!) They do mashed 'taters and I don't remember finding fries there. Which means they might NOT have more than one " huge vat of hot oil " to fry foods in--the one they put the REAL chicken into--and they most likely will NOT install all new " fryer-cookers " to prepare the vegan food in. My guess (though not totally informed, I admit) is that the " vegan chicken food " will go into the same cooking apparatus as the REAL chicken...then, of course, technically, it is NOT " vegan " ! I have serious doubts about what they say they will " offer " as being a truly " vegan " food...and I feel it's a big waste, both for KFC and for the vegetarian/vegan potential consumers--who will reject the food when they know how it is/is not prepared. And this rejection likely will lead the corporate people to say things like, " We offered it and it didn't sell well, even to vegetarian customers...We might as well take it off the menu! " And then, what could have been a GOOD food option will become NO option because of THEIR (KFC's) stupidity and refusing to prepare a vegan food the vegan way! If they REALLY prepare the " vegan " food in a way that vegans will trust, I would be sincerely surprised, because my bet is that they don't or won't! Sorry to spout off so vehemently! (A f riend of mine used to work at a (U.S.) KFC--he has very, very little to say of the company that is positive!) --Laura B., in Illinois
