Guest guest
Kelly, Please pardon my curiosity; have you always lived in Florida? My parents (from Indiana, originally) moved to central Florida, back in the 80's, and settled there to enjoy everything about your warm and sunny state--except the tomatoes! My mom grew up in a tomato " canning factory " town, now owned by the Red Gold tomato products company. Dad and Mom pined for those " back home in Indiana " tomatoes that they had always had and home-canned from their garden when I and my siblings were young. Every year (for about 15 years) they made an annual trek back north to stay with my sister's family and " buy tomatoes to take back home " with them to Florida. Apparently, they didn't like the " Florida " tomatoes, either--not even the Farmers' Market kind! Eventually, Mom and Dad moved back to Indiana--and with the tiny " yard space " they have in their retirement village dwelling, they have planted a small " garden " --to grow their beloved " Indiana tomatoes " every summer! So, I wondered, after reading your post about your guacamole and Boca sandwich, whether you had been a Floridian all your life, or, like Mom and Dad, a " transplant " from some other place! Another question of my curiosity: Do you like the Boca " chicken " type patty? I have never tried it and was wondering about trying it. Reading your other posts, I know you have just recently " gone veggie " , so you are probably still learning about new foods and tastes. If I asked a person who had been a vegetarian since day one what the Boca patties taste like, it would be a different response, and for obvious reasons. I have tried a few of those products, and have liked each one so far, but I still hate to have to purchase a whole package and then get one out and find I don't really like it and what to do with all the rest? Thanks for your patience with my questions! BTW, your guacamole looks really exciting! I might try making some soon. (I don't very often, because DH isn't into guac. but I love it and just need to make a batch that I can use up all by myself! Have a great weekend! Happy veg. cooking! --Laura B., in Illinois Posted by: " Kelly Best " bests4him Bests4Him Thu May 29, 2008 10:07 am ((PDT)) Today is my 14th day with no meat. I'm actually starting to find it hard to cook and buy meat for my family, who are avid meat eaters. I'm starting to understand the not wanting your food mixed with meat food, etc. I really don't miss it, except for fried southern chicken and gravy. Today I made a great sandwich with my homemade guacamole that I changed slightly. I baked a boca chicken patty, toasted a bun with cheese then added the guacamole. Yum. If I had lettuce and good northern tomatoes I would have added them. (Florida tomatoes are disgusting -- I've lived here over 25 years and still can't stomach them).
