Hi Tami,

The more you cook, use leftovers, buy things bulk the easier and less expensive

it will be. Non-vegetarian products are very expensive, I'll bet you spent a

lot at the meat-seafood counters.

Take it day to day, you can find plenty of recipes with not a huge amount of

vegetables in them in the pasta, beans, grains folders. Take a veggie you don't

cvare for and try cooking it different ways.

Pre-vegetarian jitters

I'm starting to feel like I'm getting married tomorrow. I've got the

pre-vegetarian jitters!

I just finished grocery shopping for the day. I'll have to go again tomorrow

night for some water and things that the other stores didn't carry. I

believe I'm going to have to find a new store that carries more health foods

I cleaned out my kitchen and freezer and gave all my meat products to my son

and his room mates.

Now my house is meat free. (As far as I know. I'm sure there are hidden

ingredients in some of the stuff I have)

Tomorrow is V Day!

Any tips on what to look out for as far as vegetarian bloopers for a newbie?

I made sure to get whole grain cereal with vitamin B12, my soy milk has

vitamin D and calcium.

My fruits and veggies are all various colors. My kitchen looks like a

rainbow exploded!

I've got all new kitchen appliances and non stick pans to help the new

cooking style.

I've read a ton of books and bought some too. I've gotten two weeks worth of

recipes from the files section of this group. So all in all it looks like I

am totally prepared.

I have to tell you though, I am wondering what in the world I jumped into.

Grocery shopping was tougher then I expected it would be and I hate shopping

anyway so that just added more stress to it.

My big thing is though that I like meat and am not a big fan of veggies.

What in the world is a woman and man who don't like veggies doing becoming

vegetarians? My hubby is worse then I am. At least I cook veggies in

different ways and try them, hoping that I will like them. But that man just

refuses to try them so I'll have to be sneaky.

Any words of advice for me?

You sounds like you've done a lot of right things to help you in this new eating

lifestyle. You're going to find it easy to be vegetarian, with all of the

recipes in our files here and the new tried and true ones that are posted all

the time by our generous members.

%2ARecipes/ Just keep

trying foods. It is funny how when you find one way you enjoy preparing

something, that then you often times will appreciate and enjoy that veggie

prepared in many other ways. Check this file out too. Loads of great info for

any vegetarian.

Happy 1st day tomorrow.

I was one of those vegetarians who started w/o liking vegetables. I realized

that cheese makes lots of veggies taste better, and then started using some

sauces and spices. No butter! That was easy, and now I am down to VeggieCheese

(so proud of myself).

Best wishes and let us know if you have any questions. The people here are so

knowledgeable.
