Guest guest
Baked/Broiled Tofu 1 Package Firm Tofu or Extra Hard 12oz – Sliced ¼ " to ½ " thick Extract water from tofu by placing slices between two clean towels. Press with heavy pan for about 15 minutes while preparing marinade. Blend the following Marinade ingredients: 1/4 cup Braggs or Soy Sauce 2-3 cloves Garlic 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric Powder (Haldi) 1/4 cup Lemon Juice (2 Lemons Juiced) 1/4 cup Purified Water 1-teaspoon Onion Powder 2 T Olive Oil Blend above marinade ingredients until smooth. Oil a cookie sheet with a 1 " lip and place tofu slices next to each other on it and pour marinade on top. Sprinkle with Nutritional Yeast – High in Vitamin B – Once when Yogi Ji was cooking, he said, " Where is the medicine in the kitchen cabinet. " It ended up that he was trying to find the Nutritional Yeast, which is loaded with Vitamin B. Bake at 375º for one hour or broil on low for 10 minutes on each side. Tofu should brown nicely and be moist, flavorful and chewy. The above tofu recipe can be served with steamed vegetables and any grain such as rice, millet, quinoa, buckwheat or couscous and a fresh salad, all with Lemon Tahini Dressing drizzled over. Delicious! When tofu is pressed between two towels, it extracts the bland water out. Tofu is like a sponge. After drawing the water out, it is then more ready to soak up any delicious marinade-flavored liquid. You can mix your own or choose a ready-made one on the market, Barbeque, Teriyaki, Thai Peanut, Chipolte etc. If they are to thick or salty you can add a little water to dilute or thin them out, add more ginger or garlic for even more flavor, or use as is, the ideas are endless. You can also find recipes on the web using the search engine for other delightful marinades. Tofu will take on any flavor, ginger, garlic, balsamic or rice vinegar, lime, chile powder, etc. Note: IF YOU ARE SHORT OF TIME and need to eat within 30-40 minutes, remove the tofu out of its container. Slice it in 1/4 " slices and place it next to each other on an oiled cookie sheet. Juice a couple of Lemons over the tofu, and about 1/4 cup of Braggs or Soy Sauce and another 1/2 cup of water. Gently swerve pan and then broil in oven for 10 minutes on each side, serve with simple steams, rice and plain yogurt if desired. It will still taste wonderful! To make life easier during a busy week, sometimes on Sunday morning I cut up about four packages of tofu and press between two towels for the length of the day. Then blend up some marinade on Sunday evening. Maybe even two types of marinade, for example, the above one and a separate marinade for Fajitas. Then I place the tofu in separate Tupperware container(s) and pour the different marinade(s) over each batch. It then stays stored in my refrigerator absorbing wonderful flavor until I use it sometime during the week. Tofu usually goes pretty fast in my home. From time to time before use, I swerve the containers. It either gets baked/broiled, sautéed, breaded or used in a stir-fry dish etc. Start early on Sunday and have and fun mixing up a couple of different marinades in the evening and marinade your tofu until you are ready to prepare a meal with it. With busy schedules, it's good to plan your week's meals out, especially if you have children and/or little time to cook.
