i have to agree. if you genuinely have a concern, the first thing you should

do is talk to your doctor or other medical professional. and in this

wonderful information age, i'm sure you can find information out online as

well. i did a quick google search and the only dietary recommendations for

diverticulosis were to have a high-fiber diet; i couldn't find anything

saying to cut out one's soy intake. i am in no way shape or form a member of

the medical community though, but i say definitely do some research. or even

contact the pcrm (i think they can be found at pcrm.org) and they should be

able to tell you a little more.

I am familiar with both these conditions - I have thyroid issues and I

used to have diverticulosis. The reason nuts/seeds aren't recommended

for diverticulosis is because they can get " stuck " in the pouch that has

formed and cause problems - I'm sure you can imagine. In my case, the

diverticulosis occurred because I ate too fast and didn't chew my food

enough. Luckily it healed eventually and I no longer have any

problems. Good thing since I eat lots of nuts and seeds. :-) Pretty

much everything I eat contains fiber - whole veggies, fruit, beans, nuts

and seeds.

The soy prohibition is because of the thyroid. Soy is said to suppress

thyroid function, so if someone already has a sluggish thyroid, it is

not recommended to consume soy. In my case, I do eat _some_ soy, but I

don't eat a lot of it and I avoid highly processed soy - especially

isolated soy protein, which has been linked to cancer. Moderation is

what I follow.
