Guest guest
I tried the following Chai Tea Mix Recipe months ago and had problems with it disolving even in boiling water. Just thought I would mention that the flavors are wonderful and I've found a way to steep the tea. I had purchased several very small draw string cloth bags at the health food store specifically for steeping loose tea, dried flowers and rose hips. My stainles steel tea ball worked good for the flowers but not for the spices in the Chi Mix. I place 2-3 Tablespoons of the Chai Tea Mix in the bag and let it steep in a cup of hot water. Works perfectly. No floating spices that won't disolve in the tea. I haven't seen these litle cloth bags again in the store, but they would be very easy to make. By the way the cloth bags that I purchaced are made of organic cotton and were very inexpensive. They are apx.4 in.long and 3 inches wide. Guest guest
I make the chai tea mix the way most herbal tea mixtures are done. I learned this system in my herbal medicine classes years ago. I simmer all of the whole spices for 20 minutes, then add black tea [optional], turn it off, and let it steep overnight at room temperature for 24 hours. Then I strain the whole mixture [you can use it earlier but it won't be quite as spicy] and store it in a glass bottle in the fridge. It will keep for about one week. When I am ready to use it, add my milk and sugar and heat it in the microwave or a stainless steel saucepan. I usually avoid non-dairy creamers because most contain hydrogenated fats that are not good for us. There is a good soy creamer made by Silk that is reasonably healthy and tastes great. If you are milk tolerent/not vegan, just use whipping cream :-) If you are interested in my specific recipe, I can provide it.
