I'm in L..A. And we can find all types of ethnic foods here.. Quite a bit of

Thai, Mexican, south western, Indian places around me. I have yet to ever find

a perogi though. I love shopping in the little middle eastern and Asian stores.

If I see a veggie or spice of interest I just ask and some nice employee or

customer usually has an answer or little recipe for me to write down.

RE: New Member and Haggis....

Hello All..

I'm also from Edinburgh..

I think the origins of what we would call 'Scottish food' are linked

mainly with people being very poor and therefore making do with what

they had and trying to use absolutely everything..

Hence you would get things like haggis (which used everything practically)

I agree with Christie though, nowadays in Scotland people don't really

eat much of what would be described as Scottish as we have such a mix of

food and food styles and cultures and I really wouldn't describe

anything I've eaten as bland.

In fact I would go as far to say that the only really Scottish food I

would encounter in Edinburgh is haggis with neeps(rutabaga/yellow turnip) and

tatties(potatoes), porridge

(of course) or I guess a deep fried mars bar!

But isn't this the same with you guys over in the states?

Rebecca
