I have been really sick for the last few days. I went to the dr. one

day, the E.R. the next. Diagnosis: flu, bronchitis, sinusitis,

laryngitis.

I was told to get some chicken soup. I told them I am a vegetarian. I

They told me that I would not get the same benefit from a plain

" vegetable water " LOL

They said that I needed the nutritional benefits of the chicken soup.

What can I do to feel better?? Any good vegetable soup recipes that

might help me feel better?

I am taking the meds they gave me although I detest taking medicines.

Jeannie,

I am sorry you've been under the weather! I hope you are feeling better

soon!

As to the " only 'chicken' chicken soup will make you well " --well, that's a

bunch of crock, though probably well-meant! There are plenty of nutrients in a

good veg. stock/broth!

Something I find helpful--and it all depends on your tolerance--is

something " spicy " , as in

" hot pepper-containing " foods. Drinking " Spicy " V-8 seems to make me feel a

lot better, and it can be warmed up--you don't have to go thru the trouble of

chopping, peeling, cooking...when you're not feeling up to it.

One of my OWN " home remedies " for the " sinus-throat " kind of ailment is as

follows--

be warned, it IS " HOT " --but those who have tried is say I'm right and it DOES

seem to help!

It goes like this:

Take about a tablespoon of REAL orange juice in a small glass. (A shot

glass is great for this.) In a larger glass, pour at least 8 oz. of the same

orange juice.

To the shot glass, drop in 20 to 30 drops of TABASCO sauce. Yes,

TABASCO--I recommend that in particular, as I have tried it know how it " works " !

Stir the shot glass of juice-Tabasco to make sure it's all mixed in and

then, (this is the only way I can describe it) --drink it in one gulp. (Sort of

toss it to the back of the throat and swallow quickly--it's really better to NOT

get any of the stuff on the lips or tip of the tongue, because it really IS

hot!)

Next, QUICKLY " chase " the Tabasco/orange juice " shot " with the full

glass of orange juice.

NOW, after you do that, if you have ANY " congestion " or sinus " drainage "

or whatever, you WILL likely get the urge to spit it out--because the

juice/Tabasco stuff seems to start right away clearing you out--it is like a

decongestant/expectorant! I am NOT kidding!

If you don't start to feel a little bit better--throat, head, sinus, etc,

and less " stuffed, full-headed, stopped up, sore throat, and so on, you can do

the whole thing again.

I have repeated this routine and only on RARE occasions, had to try it 3

times before I started feeling better--it usually kicks in right away. After

doing this every few hours for a day or two, even with a NASTY head cold and

allergy symptoms, I usually always start feeling much improved.

It isn't a " medicine " ; you can use any kind of orange juice, as long as

it's not that water & syrup added " juice cocktail " stuff (Sunny-D, Hi-C). I

have tried other citrus and other fruit juices with the Tabasco, and for some

reason, ORANGE juice seems to work best.

No chicken broth in it. Tabasco is pepper juice, vinegar and salt, as far

as I know... and orange juice--well, you can even squeeze your own, if you like!

That's my offering for the " hope-you-feel-better-soon " remedies!

Blessings and peace!

Laura and everyone else that have chimed in on this one. A virtual hug to all of

you.

I am going to try this and all other suggestions. I am sure many others are

going to benefit from such valuable information.

This IS the best place.
