Guest guest
I get stuff sent to me from a weightloss site called Sparkpeople and I instantly thought about this group and figured that maybe you all would like to check it out. HUGS Jenn Healthy Family Resource: VegetarianNutrition.net Sometimes it can be hard to quickly and easily find accurate information that you can share with your kids about health, their bodies, eating well and exercising. However, many reputable organizations offer free health, nutrition and fitness information to parents and kids. Here's a great website that everyone in the family can enjoy! www.VegetarianNutrition.net If you or any of your family members are vegetarian, then this site, from the American Dietetic Association, should be one of your main sources of information. Plenty of research shows that well-planned vegetarian diets can reduce the risk of many lifestyle diseases, including cancer, heart disease, stroke, and more. Many individuals can reduce these risks by simply replacing a few meat-based meals per week with plant-based ones. It's not uncommon for children and teens to decide they no longer want to eat meat or animal products. Rather than forcing your child to eat meat because you don't understand vegetarianism, this site will help you support your child's decisions and ensure he's staying healthy and meeting his nutritional needs. You can purchase articles written by registered dietitians on various topics, such as transitioning to a vegetarian lifestyle, vegan nutrition, and vegetarian children. One section of the site offers links to several other recommended sites about vegetarianism.
Guest guest
Thanks, Jenn. I wish I had had this when my daughter, 2nd daughter, 4th child, decided she didn't like meat...she basically did not like to chew it. ......I was fine with it but I had a hard time getting enough protein into her. She also did not like most other forms of protein....and she was so tiny. She weighed about 25 lbs. when she was almost 3 yrs. old....always at the lowest end of the weight chart and the high end of the height chart. So, I started making some homemade bread called NO EXCUSE bread that you make at night and then let it rise in the fridge from 2 to 24 hours. I would bake it the next morning. There is a variation in the recipe where you can add other ingredients, soy flour, wheat germ and powdered milk (I think) and I added eggs...so it has a higher protein level than regular breads. She loved this bread with peanut butter and honey. She also loved homemade yogurt and fruit. And to this very day, she is a naturally thin young woman...she is 5' 6 " and normally weighs about 115 lbs. And although she is not vegetarian....she still hates to handle, cook or eat meat, but she LOVES chocolate!! Nancy C.
