Guest guest
My blender broke today, I've been making smoothies for breakfast using some frozen fruits and non fat organic yogart. Any ideas on the best blender to get for this purpose. My frozen strawberries were the culpret this morning, although I've had this blender for more than a decade ( a cuisart) I've only really started using it. Any advice would be great. I'm so sorry your blender broke! I have seen specially-equipped blenders that have a little " spout " on the front of the machine so to dispense the smoothie directly into a glass or pitcher. My daughter has one, and I can't remember the brand name-she likes it. A good friend of mine purchased a similar machine, but I have no idea how well it works for her. There are also those really cool hand-held blenders that you just put into the glass and --VOILA! you have a blended smoothie right in your drinking glass! I have never used these either. What I have has stood up under YEARS of use--an OSTER brand blender that was actually one of our wedding presents in 1977! It still works! I have replaced the glass container that fits onto the " collar " with the blade and its little rubber sealing ring--twice, I think, but the machine itself still works just as well as it did when new. I have made many smoothies in it-and use it so often. (I don't own a food processor, so the " Osterizer " is my chopper, shredder, grater, puree-er, blender and so on.) It works for me! The newer Oster brand blenders are basically similar to mine, I suppose. If you use a blender often I would recommend shopping around and getting the best you can afford--especially if it comes with a lot of support (like a good product warranty). If you have a local retailer that carries the brand regularly, then the retail vendor might also be able to help you if your product needs service or replacing under its warranty. Best wishes in finding a relpacement for your broken blender! --Laura B., in Illinois PS: I am wondering if, in the meantime, you can find something to sub. for the blended frozen fruit that would work without having to use a blender. Perhaps a frozen (without sugar, if that is your preference) fruit juice concentrate--which could be partially thawed and could be blended into your non-fat organic yogurt. I have done that a few times--though I use the f.f. organic yogurt and organic soy milk in my smoothies. I have also used the organic " fruit spreads " (like jelly/jam/preserves), because they are sweetened with fruit, not sugar and are often smooth in texture--it blends in fast in a pinch, and I don't have to get out the blender to make a quick smoothie that way. (The " down " side is they are still pretty sweet, and you don't get much " fruit spread " out of those tiny little jars it comes in! I do it anyway, because I save the empty fruit spread jars to store my dry herbs and various " teas " in, so I figure I get a break that way, anyhow!) Never miss a thing. Make your homepage. Guest guest
I have an old stainless steel VitaMix from the early-mid 80's, and that thing still kicks butt! The hype surrounding the machines is pretty much that, hype. You can't really " cook " in them and the " total juice " is totally disgusting in my opinion. They no longer sell the steel chamber machines, and claim that the new ones are better. They're a powerful machine though, and get used in commercial kitchens fairly often. Think that mine was well worth the money I spent. I used to grind wheat then " knead " it into bread dough and let it rise right in the machine. I make smoothies all the time with whole frozen fruits, and it still does a good job. New models don't appear to have a spigot, if you do get an older steel one with the spigot you need to be very careful when cleaning it. Food can get trapped in there and ferment, then blow back into your smoothie! Good luck, Barbara ______________________________\ ____ Never miss a thing.
