Guest guest
Hello! Just wanted to briefly introduce myself... I am Judy, am originally from Washington, DC, and now live in Rochester, NY, with my husband and young daughter (who adores asparagus, BTW). We're not vegetarians, but we don't eat a lot of meat, either. I cook a variety of cuisines, including a lot of non-meat Asian (especially regional South Asian). My Dad, his wife, and my best friend are vegetarians, and it's great that I can cook very well for them (and us!) without the panic that many meat-eaters seem/claim to have when entertaining vegetarian family and friends. Wait... I said " brief, " didn't I? Sorry! Anyway, I am very interested in this group, and hope to be able to contribute, too. Oh, and on the subjects I have noted in the last day: * For a quick pizza, I often use crushed or even diced canned tomatoes, my favorite being Muir Glen Organic Fire Roasted canned tomato products (it's Rochester... we don't have very ripe tomatoes most of the year!). I place them on the surface of whatever the pizza base is, and then add fresh and/or dried herbs before adding any other toppings. * On the topic of protein, it is my understanding that while many non-animal foods have protein, you have to be more careful about combining them properly in order to get a *complete* protein. However, you don't have to combine them all at one sitting - it can be rice at one meal, and then the complementary beans at another, for instance. However, if I am understanding this incorrectly, I'd love to know! Judy
