Guest guest
I am staying away from nightshades too, at least for a while to see if they hurt me or not. I crave hot peppers so badly!!!!! It is not 'proven' that nightshades worsen arthritis, but they do contain alkaloids that are known to aggravate joint conditions and some people are sensitive to those alkaloids. Different nightshades have different ones, in different amounts depending on color (for peppers) and on whether they are cooked or not, etc. Anyway, here is an article I found useful: http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=george & dbid=62 I have been staying away from my beloved peppers, eggplant and tomatoes since the first of the month. I still hurt, but I will give this a couple more weeks..... My problem is tendonitis rather than arthritis I think. I figured joint pain is joint pain right? .....but, to answer the original question: nothing substitutes for the spiciness of hot peppers, but I am finding that the following help satisfy the craving: garlic, lots of garlic scallions and cilantro, lime juice wasabi horseradish lemon pepper white pepper ginger and ginger juice shishuan peppercorns .....you get the idea....still crave them though. , thelilacflower wrote: > > I know, those are my favorite veggies.
