Guest guest
NMA SUPPORTS ANTI-DOMESTIC TERRORISM LEGISLATION Herd on the Hill (National Meat Association), Elliotte Bowerman, May 22, 2006 NMA has, along with more than 80 other organizations, signed a letter supporting two bills - S1926 and HR4239 - to amend the federal criminal code to protect food producers, processors, retailers, and scientists against radical animal rights activists. The FBI estimates over 1,200 animal extremist incidents in the past 15 years have cost the economy $200 million, and the FBI classifies animal rights and eco extremism as the number one domestic terrorist threat today. The bills provide penalties for intentional economic damage and disruption, and intentionally causing bodily harm or placing a person in reasonable fear of death or bodily harm. They also address third-party targeting, prohibiting intentional damage of property belonging to a person or organization with ties to a legitimate animal enterprise.
