Stay fresh, go raw, at Que seRaw seRaw By Christine Morente, STAFF WRITER EVEN IF IT'S been raining lately, there's plenty of sunshine in Que seRaw seRaw. It's faux sunshine, painted on the walls, but it's still bright in the small space that sells pre-packaged organic, vegan and raw food. That's excellent for this starving reporter who has turned her back on nasty fatty foods that add jelly to my belly. And because of the jelly, I've tried celebrity-endorsed diets such as Atkins, macrobiotics and the Zone. When I heard about the raw

food movement some time ago, I didn't find it appealing because I like my food cooked. It wasn't until I walked into Que seRaw seRaw that I decided to try it. The business opened in February on 1160 Capuchino Ave., and is often filled with customers who are vegan and enjoy eating raw food — food which has not been heated above 105 degrees. Heat can destroy essential nutrients in food, so by keeping foods raw, or at least semi-raw, the body can receive 100 percent of all the nutrients in the food. The store is simple, clean and has no frills. The dishes are prepared via food processor, or are marinated and dehydrated at the eatery. They are served in small portions and kept refrigerated. You only have to peer in and decide what you want. Advertisement Alicia Parnell, the owner, is currently working

with a winter menu that has items that cost no more than $7. Next month, she switches to the spring menu, which will contain her cream of celery soup ($6) and her "signature" Kale salad with cabbage and cauliflower ($4), which I had. It was sweet, light and — oddly enough — filling. She also has a "mock" tuna pate ($6), veggie lasagna ($7) and "Neatloaf" with cashew ranch ($6). She offers desserts that range from a chocolate mousse torte ($4) and truffles ($2) to crackers ($3). All are free of dairy, wheat and gluten. At Que seRaw seRaw, it's easy to go raw. -The eatery is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Mondays through Fridays. For more information, call (650) 348-7298 or visit http://www.queserawseraw.com. Peter H
