Guest guest
Q. If you are planning to return to a room within an hour, isn’t it economical to leave the light on? A. According to the Energy Saving Trust, it is worth leaving the light on only if you are going to be out of a room for less than five minutes. The rest of the time, you should flick it off. This is the same whether you are using energy-saving light bulbs, conventional bulbs or even fluorescent strip lights. The trust’s lighting expert, James Russill, says it is a myth that turning on a light requires a surge of power: “It takes a little more energy to power the ballast — the electrical device that starts up the light — but not enough to justify leaving it on for more than a few minutes if no one is in the room. Turning a bulb off and on does not have any effect on the life of the bulb either.” The Valley Vegan.............Peter H Win a BlackBerry device from O2 with . Enter now.
