Guest guest
Norfolk, Va. — Their sound may defy definition—it’s been called everything from indie synth to power pop to rock-dance-roll—but there’s no mistaking the direction of Hellogoodbye, and that’s straight skyward. Despite being booked solid on tours through the end of April, lead singer Forrest Kline took time out of his busy schedule to shoot a pro-vegan ad for peta2—PETA’s Youth Division. The ad shows Forrest kissing a giant "pig" (someone in a bright pink pig costume) next to the tagline "Love Animals, Don’t Eat Them. Go Vegan." Forrest also had some choice things to say about why he went vegetarian during an exclusive interview. "There’s virtually no reason to eat animals, and I can think of dozens of reasons to go veggie. You’ll feel better about yourself physically and morally," says Forrest, who recommends the great vegan food at his three favorite restaurants in Orange County: Native Foods, Taco Loco, and Ian’s Health Bar. "Where we are now, there are so many options with what you can eat. You don’t have to take a life to survive. It’s not like we’re cavemen!" Forrest looks back and remembers that kicking the meat habit was a piece of cake. "Well, I gave up red meat about four months before, just as a transition. Then I gave up meat altogether. Both were very, very, very easy transitions, even with my late-night eating habits and eating on the road," he says, noting that there’s a lot of "animal rights energy" in the music industry. Forrest joins an ever-growing list of musicians—including Death Cab For Cutie, Le Tigre, The Shins, and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs—who have teamed up with peta2 to inspire kids to challenge outdated, cruel attitudes about animals. Also featured on peta2.com are celebrity interviews, message boards, merchandise, downloadable voice-mail recordings, and chances to win great prizes like free concert tickets, iPods, and more.
