Guest guest
URGENT: HELP SAVE AMERICA'S MOST SIGNIFICANT RENEWABLE ENERGY PROJECT Dear Kyoto and Beyond Petition Supporter,Cape Wind, the first significant off-shore wind farm planned in the United States, is under attack in Washington. This project would have minimal environmental impact and would provide 75% of Cape Cod’s electricity. It would also reduce a volume of greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to taking 162,000 cars off the road.Alaska Representative Don Young has attached an amendment to the House version of the Coast Guard Reauthorization Act (HR. 889) that would ban offshore wind farms within 1.5 nautical miles of a shipping channel or ferry route. The Young Amendment, which has little to do with the bill it’s attached to, would effectively destroy the Cape Wind project. The bill is now in Conference where it will be acted on any day. If you would like to help save Cape Wind, please visit this site: Greenpeace Take Action. If you go to this site today, you can sign a letter that will go to the Senators who can block the Young Amendment – you can help stop the Young Amendment before it is too late.Representative Young, a strong advocate for drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, is known for calling for background checks on Forest Service staffers to see if they have ties to environmental groups. Now we must stop him from blocking a safe and renewable form of energy. Again, it's not too late to help.
