Guest guest
Fri Mar 3, 6:42 PM ET CAMARILLO, Calif. - A young female bobcat was recovering from being shot through the head with an arrow that lodged between the animal's eyes and out through the skull, wildlife officials said. The projectile managed to miss the brain and other vital organs and caused some sinus and bone damage, leaving veterinarians and those who caught the cat Feb. 19 optimistic about its chances of returning to the wild. " If you're going to get an arrow through the head, that is probably the best place to have it, " said Nicky Thole, director of Camarillo Wildlife Rehabilitation. The 8- to 10-month-old bobcat was believed to have wandered for more than a week with the wound before it was captured. The emaciated animal, which weighed just 8 pounds — half the weight for a cat her age — underwent surgery and was showing signs of normal neurological function, said veterinarian Peregrine Wolff. The arrow was likely shot by a hunter, said state Department of Fish and Game warden Grant Oggel. " Either somebody had a very bad shot or a very good shot, " he said. " It was a one-in-a million shot. " ___ Information from: Ventura County Star, http://venturacountystar.com
