Guest guest
OK, bottom line is my ferritin level is 6 and the norm is 12 to 150 ng.ml in women. In January 2007. I had a special CT scan done and they just got the results to my Internist. It showed a tumor in/on/around the ilieo cecal valve, a large abdominal hernia and other stuff. So far they haven't identified the cause for continued passage of blood, but have ruled out the simple stuff. When I was hospitalized for December 2006, they were supposed to do a blood transfusion and start iron infusions but the doctor responsible was out of town on vacation and the one who was supposed to handle it didn't. So I've been feeling like death warmed over, with fainting, blue lips, nails, dark circles under the eyes, extreme fatigue and a Quorn roast fake partridge in a pear tree, but STILL the doctors haven't gotten around to giving me a nice couple pints of O neg (from my sons) and iron infusions. My Internist isn't sure what to do about the tumor, or even if they can do anything. Nor does he know if it is benign but my guess is it is or I'd be dead by now. He has me on 3, 325mg ferrous sulfate tabs daily. (I'm laughing out loud here.) I go into severe hypoglycemia (it's gone down to 24 and I have passed out many many many times). No, I'm not diabetic on insulin. It may be connected to the pancreatitis I was hospitalized for in December 2006 and the tumor. I can keep it marginally controlled if I eat a little something every two hours (two crackers and peanut butter or a piece of cheese.) If this silliness isn't enough, I have a lovely staph skin infection from cellulitis resultant from interigo under my belly and around something even further south, so I am on rather large doses of Cipro. (Still laughing here, can you hear me?) SO here is the puzzle for all of you. I know the veggies high in iron but here is what I have to work around. Cipro dose is 3X day and can be taken with or without food, but no dairy. Also, the Cipro site states: " Supplements that contain calcium, iron, or zinc can also reduce levels of Cipro. Do not take them while you are taking Cipro. Ask your doctor whether you should keep taking multivitamins that contain iron, calcium or zinc while you are taking Cipro. " Ooooooook.....but I have to take a large amount of vitamins, including calcium, magnesium, potassium and am now on those nice doses of ferrous sulfate (iron) 3X daily. My brain hurts...ok, actually I am not getting enough blood/oxy to the brain to work overly well. So anyone want to work out a schedule for me to get all the Cipro in, the vitamins and the iron? I'd love to just toss the iron back with coffee or orange juice but aaaaaaaaaaaaaaat, wrong. Can't. Bad idea. Iron is supposed to be taken on an empty stomach, not less than 1 to 2 hours after the last meal. I do that and my blood sugar takes the fast down elevator. At least there is no way I can be pregnant. ARGH! Detailed ideas greatly appreciated. Love and hugs to all, Jeanne in GA Looking for last minute shopping deals? Find them fast with Search.
