Guest guest
Welcome to all the newcomers. Protein is not a problem for vegetarians or vegans. A person needs approx. 1/2 gram of protein per body weight per day. ALL vegetables, grains, beans, nuts and seeds provide protein. One cup of baked beans is approx. 12 grams of protein, 5 oz of tofu is approx. 11 grams of protein, 2 tablespoons of peanut butter is 8 grams (add the bread for the sandwich and you have about 13 grams of protein!). As long as you are eating a variety of grains, beans, vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds, you should get more than the recommended amounts of protein everyday, as well as an abundant supply of every other vitamin and nutrient. The one nutrient that may be a problem is B-12. The body stores B-12 so it will probably take several years before your body shows any signs of deficiency. B-12 is available in supplement form. I hope this information is helpful. Please continue to ask questions!!
