Guest guest
I just came from local restaurant Carmen's Cafe, where I had the best Baba Ganouj I've ever tasted. And believe me, I've eaten a lot of it, including tons made myself, but this one is hands down the best ever. The rich smoky flavor from the grilled eggplant adds a dimension that makes me salivate as I write this. It was so good my hubby ate it without even realizing it's eggplant (which he doesn't like!). We ordered another dish while we were there, and another one to go! They also make a fabulous hummus, starting from scratch, not from canned chick peas. The grape leaves are vegetarian, and the fatoush has a lovely dressing, as does the tabbouleh. The falafel was also outstanding. In short, if you like vegetarian middle eastern foods, and you're in St. Louis, this is the place for you. It's not a vegetarian only restaurant, but the choices are so flavorful and plentiful, you won't be sorry. I can't wait to go back. Don't be fooled by the appearance (which we were for the few months it's been open) - there's great food in there!
