Question of the Week - How do you Recycle food containers - revisited

It isn't a food container, but we go through 3 large, 40 pound containers of

kitty litter a week. The plastic litter buckets have an air-tight lid and we

use them for everything from storing decorations and clothing to storing bags of

rice, beans, flours, etc. Since I don't have a food-approved flour bin for the

various flours I use weekly, I re-bag the flours into gallon size bags and toss

them into the bucket and snap the lid shut.

It is an easy thing to write the contents on the side or lid and they stack

about 3 high, quite easily. We also removed the carry handles and bolted them

together in a 9 square (3 rows of 3 buckets) kitty condo. Each kitty condo

apartment has a scrap of carpet, old blanket or fleece cushioning the bottom and

some still have a string with ball hanging from the top.

Since we are a cat household, my yarn for crochetting is kept in the bucket with

a small hole in the middle of the lid for the yarn to come out. It keeps the

kits from getting into my yarn and making a mess of it.

Whenever I have a glut of the empty litter buckets, I offer them on Freecycle

and they go within the day.

Recycle, reuse, make do!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love and Hugs, Jeanne in GA
