Guest guest
Do you have an ethnic sort of market nearby? A friend goes to a Korean/Mexican grocery store in North Atlanta where he pays 1.96 (YES, a buck ninety six) for 5 pound bags of dry beans, peas, and lentils. A 25 pound bag of sticky rice (short grain Japanese rice) is under 10 bucks. I get all my herbs and spices from Wal Mart, but not the fancy bottles, the ones wrapped in cellophane in the ethnic foods section. Every week I buy one or two long term foods like a case of tomatoes, at Sam's and try to rotate the expensive stuff so I don't have to restock the pricey things at the same time. Flour is between 8 and 9 bucks for 25 pounds and since I bake daily, I usually go through 50 pounds a month. Sugar is comparably inexpensive there, too. I'm not sure if we'd pay for a Sam's membership if we didn't buy the animals' food and litter there, though. I ran out of flour today and the husband person had to buy a 5 pound bag for me and it was 2.12. The yeast, though, is where I get some of my best savings, since I can buy 2 pounds for under 4 bucks, opposed to 1.98 for three quarters of an ounce in those itty bitty packages. Drats, reminds me I need to talk my friend into going to the Korean store for me. Sometimes I wish I lived in Atlanta but it's a lot colder up there, not to mention it is appreciably more expensive to live there. Frozen hugs! Jeanne in GA (where it is cold and raining and sleeting and they said we might have something called snow...wonder what that is...) Never miss a thing. Make your homepage.
