Guest guest
If you can't find (or afford) organic produce, you can use a clorox bath to remove alot of the pesticides and toxins. Use 1 teaspoon of clorox (and it must be clorox brand) to 1 gallon of water. Soak hard skinned veggies (carrots, peppers, squash etc.) for 30 minutes, followed by a 10 minute soak in clear water. Leafy veggies, soak 15, followed by the 10 minute clear water soak. I live in Front Royal, VA (Northern Shenandoah Valley) and we have a great store here called Better Thymes and from April to October they have organic produce from local farmers on Wednesday and Saturday. It's usually the same price as the grocery store and many times it's even cheaper. Last summer I got 2 & 3 pound bags of assorted hot peppers for 1.99 each. That was per bag, not pound! We also have a weekend flea market here and there is a market that set's up a stand weekly with produce from Amish farmers at incredible prices. Green and red peppers in mid summer 3 for 1.00. I stock up on them, cut them and flash freeze them and fill gallon bags for use all winter in stir frys, soups, cassaroles etc. Di Looking for last minute shopping deals? Find them fast with Search.
