Didn't you eat these same veggies/fruit before you went vegetarian? When you

cut out the far more expensive meat, you come out way less on the bill. I know

some folks coming to the vegetarian diet and making radial changes in their diet

from a junk food diet(cheap) to a healthier diet. Another cost saving thing to

consider is better health and less cost from medical issues, if you eat

healthier along with the following things.

Here is an Acronym to help you on the road to better health. These 8 components

create a unique blend of strategies that heal.

NEWSTART -

N - Nutrition - a diet that is plant based and emphasizes whole and natural

foods. It is naturally higher in fiber, low in fat and cholesterol.

E - Exercise - We are designed to be physically active. Regular exercise in very

effective in combating many health problems, both physical and mental. It

strengthens our immune system, improves circulation and reduces stress.

W - Water - Our bodies are composed mostly of water and virtually every body

function is dependent on water. Drinking 6-8 glasses of WATER per day is

recommended for the average person. Water on the outside of the body may be used

to treat for pain and infection, and is vital for cleansing the skin.

S - Sunshine - Sunshine is one of the healing agents of nature, and is necessary

for strong bones. Just 15 minutes of sunlight can provide the daily requirement

of Vitamin D. Moderation is the key, avoiding sunburn.

T - Temperance - Temperance is having a healthful balance in every area of life.

It involves avoiding that which is harmful and moderation in that which is

good.

A - Air - Air is the body's most frequently needed resource. Living in an

environment where the air quality is good greatly enhances our ability to fight

disease. Breathing deeply of fresh air, outdoor air promotes a good oxygen

supply for the body cells

R - Rest - With proper rest, productivity and disease resistance is increased.

Rest is the great rejuvenator. We need quiet physical relaxation after active

work, vigorous exercise after mental work, and deep restorative sleep.

T - Trust in Divine Power - Trust in God is the most healing component in the

NEWSTART Lifestyle. Stress, fear and anxiety affects the chemistry and function

of every body system. Becoming acquainted with and learning to trust the

Creator God, enhances physical, emotional and spiritual healing.

RE: Expensive vs Inexpensive

I haven't responded because my bill is so high. Even at the local Farmers'

Market the prices are similar to WF. Apples (organic) are $2.50/lb and up.

Tangerines are $2-$3/lb. Broccoli is $3/lb. I try to buy local and I buy

organic. Just my produce bill is higher than some people's whole bill here!

I don't buy all organic and I shop all over the place,

I'm in So Cal. I find such great deals and spend so

little. I question some of the organic veggies I see

for sale, they look like they are grade B and have

been sitting around for days.

You're right, I guess I'm not comparing 'apples to apples' :) . I had been

veggie (now vegan) since I was in high school, over 25 years ago. I don't

remember buying meat anymore.

I think my bill became higher when I started buying 99% organic, eating tons

more produce, and had a picky eater for a daughter!

You're right about the medical costs! My 8 year old daughter (veggie since birth

- now vegan) sees the doctor about once a year for her well-check. Each year she

might come down with a cold.

I guess I shouldn't have responded because I don't remember 'before'. I'm

envious of people who can get produce from their friends' orchards! I will keep

watching other responses to see what I can change!
