Guest guest
Hi folks, I am new and enjoying the recipes :-) . I saw my chiropracter a couple of days ago and was telling him how much better I am feeling now that I am decidedly and permanently vegetarian. (It is incredible really!!!!!!!!!!!) He told me if I did not eat meat I should be taking B12, is anyone else taking this suppliment????? Is there anything else I should be aware of???? warmly, Cathy
Guest guest
B12 is available in dairy, so you only need to supplement if you are vegan. The other vitamin that vegans can be low in is D -- especially in the winter when sunshine is scarce. Milk is fortified with D, so you should be OK if you consume that. B12 deficiency can be devastating, though it happens gradually. If you are vegan you should supplement and incorporate nutritional yeast into your diet. Have your doctor check your levels when you have routine blood work done to make sure you are in range. Guest guest
I take B-12 also. It is a nutrient that you cannnot get from vegetables that is necessary for proper brain activity. We don't need much and our bodies can store it for a short time, As long as you are just vegetarian and not vegan you don't really need to worry about it, but taking the suplement won't hurt you any. I take a pro-biotic, too. It keeps intewstinal flora and fauna in the proper proportions and encourages the growth of the good microbes. If you decide to get pro-biotics, spend a little extra and get a good one. The ones that have to be refrigerated have much more active microbes and work much better.
