Guest guest Posted December 20, 2007 Report Share Posted December 20, 2007 BUTTERMILK BREAD 2 packages dry yeast 1/4 cup warm water 1/4 cup sugar 1 & 3/4 cups buttermilk, lukewarm 6 cups flour (approximately) 2 tablespoons melted butter 1 tablespoon salt 1/2 teaspoon soda Dissolve yeast in water. Add sugar, buttermilk and 3 cups of sifted flour, beat well. Let stand in warm place until light and bubbly (about 1/2 hour). Add remaining 3 cups flour, melted butter, salt and soda. Knead until smooth and elastic. Let rise until doubled in bulk, shape into loaves and place in two 9 by 5 inch greased loaf pans. Let rise until double again. Bake at 400° 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 375° and bake 30 minutes longer. Come on over and let's make seasonal Candies together.
