Guest guest
I see nothing wrong with using alternative meat products. I believe many vegetarians wouldn't stay on the path if they couldn't take a veg burger to a picnic or BBQ or enjoy a Quorn roast during the holidays or have a tofu chili dog. I don't use a lot of alternative products but when I'm in a rush it's a wonderful thing having a frozen veg burger handy to stick in the microwave, bun in the toaster toasting while I slice up onion, tomato and lettuce. Meal all done in a matter of a few minutes as I head out the door. I don't see where they are full of sodium and many of us have no sodium issue. If I didn't eat salt who knows how low my BP would be. I pour salt on everything and I have hypotension, so I say enjoy those veg burgers and find one that suits you. There are several brands out there. Donna Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile
Guest guest
I agree Donna, Where would I be at family get-together bar-b-ques if the cooks didn't throw on a veggie burger, hot dog, or faux sausage for me? I'm sometimes a little queezy about my 'burger' on the same grill, on a white flower bun, but rather than put up a fuss I eat it.-There is no such thing as a perfect lifestyle including being Vegetarian or Vegan. I know people who claim to be Vegans and still wear leather. I also sprinkle salt on everything and organic cane sugar. My blood pressure is normal, as is my chlosteral. I take no medications at the great age of 67, thank God . I am blessed. I enjoy feeling good. I work at it.. Guest guest
Donna, I am glad I am not the only one that wonders about all this sodium avoidance? Sometimes I can feel that maybe I ate too much salt (mainly when eating out and feeling really thirsty after a restaurant meal?); however, I have had serious issues with not enough salt! This happened the first time during a strenuous 19 mile hike in hot weather, about 2 summers ago. One of my girlfriends and I ran out of salt (we did find water but had no extra salt and no Gatorade). After we came back from the hike to the car we experienced painful cramps, on our backs, our calves, shoulders, and right up the soles of our feet! It was really scary and unpleasant, they did go away after we had some electrolyte replacement and salty food. Anyway, now I make a point of taking some salty food, and yes, give me that salt, mainly in hot weather! I like morningstar burgers and I just put them in the freezer for times when I am really hungry and do not have much time to prepare food, just slice buns, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and we have burgers! It is also a very nice thing for non-veggie people to have available and feed us veg heads....so they are a blessing, and no, I do not use them very often either but I am grateful that all these nice producs exist now a days.
